MERRILL - Construction of an overpass at an intersection on Highway 51 near Merrill could start as early as May 6th.

The Department of Transportation plans to build an overpass at the Highway C/North Star Road intersection.

The project sparked a protest last summer by the family who owns a gas station at the intersection. The overpass will completely cut off access to US 51 from Highway C and North Star Road.

The Bhandari's say that will kill their business.

The family walked to Madison to meet with Governor Walker in order to stop the project. But their protest failed.

Highway 51 will stay open during the construction, although some nighttime closures will be neccessary.

Construction should be done by late September.
