Krueger, Bellile Among Finalists for WIAA Scholar Athlete AwardsSubmitted: 04/18/2013

STEVENS POINT - The WIAA announced the 32 finalists for the annual Statewide Scholar Athlete Awards.

That list includes 6 area seniors.

In Division 2 Boys, Tomahawk's Austin Bellile has 8 varisty letters in football, wrestling and track. He's also the top student in his class.

In Division 3 Boys, Hayden Krueger of Crandon is also the top student in his class. Krueger has earned 11 varsity letters in wrestling, football, and track. He was also a state finalist for the Wisconsin Heisman award back in October.


A boy and a girl in each of the four divisions will win. The winners will be announced May 5 in Wausau.

Below are the bios of other area athletes who are finalists.

In Division 3 Girls, DITTMAN, KIRA; Edgar; Edgar High School—10 varsity letters in cross country, basketball and track. State champion in track 3 years. All conference first team honors in cross country 3 years. Team MVP in track 1 year. #1 in class of 47.

Division 2 Girls, SCHOOL, MEGAN; Wittenberg; Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School—11 varsity letters in cross country, basketball and track. All conference first team honors in cross country 4 years. Team MVP honors in track 2 years and cross country 1 year. #1 in class of 95.

Finally, 2 of the 4 finalists for Division 4 Girls are from the area. GOERLITZ, ALEYNA; Withee; Owen-Withee High School—11 varsity letters in volleyball, basketball and track. First team all conference honors in volleyball 3 years and basketball 1 year. Two-time team MVP in volleyball, basketball and track. #1 in class of 41.

JANKOWSKI, BRIANNA; Wausau; Newman Catholic High School—10 varsity letters in volleyball, basketball and softball. Member of state champion basketball team 2 years. All conference first team honors in softball 3 years. Team MVP honors in softball 3 years.

Around the Corner with John McGivern will premier its episode on Rhinelander this week, but Rhinelander community members got the chance to see the episode before it airs.

Wisconsin Public Television hosted a premiere event Saturday night.

The show featured area businesses like Expera, Ponsse, and Foster and Smith.

It also showcased the community.

RHINELANDER - It gave people of all ages a community focused event to enjoy.

It's something ArtStart hopes to do after each opening event. It also hopes to mix in different themes for the receptions.

"In the past we've always had earlier receptions and this year we thought we'd try something different and have after parties with dancing and open bar, and hopefully attract maybe a little younger crowd," said Organizer Melinda Childs.
