Northwoodsers vote on DNR ProposalsSubmitted: 04/08/2013
Story By Joe Dufek

RHINELANDER - The annual DNR Spring Fish and Wildlife Meetings were held Monday night. A meeting in all 72 counties. In Oneida County, the meeting was at James Williams Middle School in Rhinelander.

Around 70 people were at the meeting...

One of the big issues up for debate and vote tonight - a proposed new rule which would allow motor trolling state-wide. Each angler would have up to three lines.

Supporters say the method allows more opportunities for anglers.

Opponents say the lakes are already under too much pressure. Also 3 fishing lines per person is too many.

"It's not so much a fish-harvest issue," says DNR fisheries biologist John Kubisiak. "We looked pretty hard at the data. We haven't found any major differences in fish caught per hour between trolling and other means."

One other fishing proposal of note - is the proposal of remaoving the Northern Bass early catch and release season.

Hunting proposals included one simplifing firearm regulations. Another would allow portable stands remaining on DNR owned and managed lands.

Results of the voting will released on the DNR Web site on Wednesday night.

We'll have more in this Wednesday night's "Northwoods Spotlight."
