MINOCQUA - The newest technology can help kids with autism at school.

A Northwoods community organization wants to bring more of that technology to autistic students in the Lakeland district.

The Lakeland Area Kiwanis Club is looking to put more iPads in schools.

The devices, in particular, have been a good fit for autistic students.

"These iPads can be teaching tools. They can be calming devices, to calm the kids down. They can even be used when a kid can't talk - there are speech apps that these iPads can do," says Get Your K's On Run Chair Dan Brunette.

Each iPad, with the right apps, costs around $750.

To raise money, the Kiwanis is hosting the first-ever Get Your K's On Run on April 27 in Minocqua.

The event includes 1K, 5K, and 10K options.

"The beauty of it, it's not flat. The 5K has about 36 feet of elevation change throughout the entire course, and the 10K has about 60 feet," Brunette says.

The Lakeland Times and four others will serve as title sponsors.

But the event still needs your support, either as a runner or volunteer.
