Wis. Food Prices StableSubmitted: 04/07/2013
Story By Associated Press

MADISON - Wisconsin food prices remained relatively stable, despite recent energy spikes and last summer's drought.

The Wisconsin Farm Bureau says the average cost for 16 food items rose about 1 percent since late 2012.

The bureau's market basket even rang up $1.63 less for the same items in a national survey.

A Bureau spokesman says several factors may impact prices this year. One of them is a sustained increase in global energy prices. A late freeze in the spring growing season like Wisconsin had last year, would cause disruptions in fruit and vegetable production.
