Story By WJFW News Team

WAUSAU - An inmate attack sent two Marathon County jail officers to the hospital.

The attack happened around 12:30 yesterday afternoon.

A press release says corrections officers went into the cellblock for a corrective action.

They were moving inmates to their assigned cells when one inmate started fighting.

The inmate punched an officer in the head.

When other officers moved in a second officer was hurt.

Both a male and female officer were taken to Aspirus Hospital.

They've both been with the Marathon County Sheriff's department since 2001.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice and Wausau Police will do the investigation.
