MANITOWISH WATERS - When you think of elections you might think about mud slinging and campaign ads, but an upcoming election in Manitowish Waters seem to be more laid back.

Residents had the chance to meet their candidates up close and personal.

The Manitowish Waters community center wasn't packed with hot debates, but there were issues that some people wanted addressed.

John Hanson and Daniel Sleight are running for town chairman.

Meanwhile, Eric Behnke and Chuck Rayla are aiming for town supervisor.

Rayla was very passionate about having close communities merge together.

He also wants the fishing industry to bounce back.

"I had brought up that I would like to see some stocking of our chain again and maybe we could work with other towns and the Lac Du Flambaeu tribe," said Rayla.

"Maybe we could get together and try out stocking program for the towns and bring the fishing back to how the Northwoods used to be."

"They're doing a very good job at getting public opinion and staying with it at this point their opinion is no change and I would fully support that." Behnke said.

Having more businesses and possibly younger people working in Manitowish Waters was also a top priority for the community, but they also know it won't happen over night.

"It would be nice to have something in this community as far as employment down the road that could hold young people here," said Manitowish Waters resident, Bob Winter.

"I think in any small northern Wisconsin community that's a tough bill to fill."

People I spoke with say election day will be tough because all of the candidates are from the Manitowish community and have very similar views.

The election is coming up April 2nd.

That's one week from tonight.

But it can be difficult for fire departments to draw more volunteers.

They need more people to help.
