Early Morning Shooting Wakes Wausau ResidentsSubmitted: 03/23/2013
Story By Shardaa Gray

WAUSAU - It's always going to be unnerving to hear gunshots when you're in your home, but even more so to be woken up by them in the early morning hours.

That's exactly what happened to some Wausau residents.

Shots were fired on the city's east side.

It happened around 3 a-m near the intersection of third and short street in Wausau.

One of the bullets went through a neighbors house.

Nobody was injured during the shooting.

Police say it may have started as road rage.

Other than a little noise from the bars down the street, neighbors say it's usually a relatively quiet neighborhood.

"I was sound asleep and I heard two gun shots and the dog woke me up," said Wausau resident, Kristy Matti.

"So I got up and I didn't see nothing. I looked out the window and didn't see nothing and shortly after that the police arrived."

Kristy Matti is upset because it could have happened when her kids were outside.

"If you see something make sure you let the police know right away because there's too many innocent lives being taken lightly for stupidity." said Matti.

Detectives are trying to figure out what lead to the incident.

The shooting is still under investigation.
