Church Abuse Suit Against Green Bay Diocese SettledSubmitted: 03/20/2013
Story By Associated Press

GREEN BAY - The Diocese of Green Bay has settled a lawsuit by two brothers who accused them of fraud.

Todd and Troy Merryfield said the diocese withheld information of a former priest's prior sexual misconduct.

Reverend John Feeney later was convicted of sexually abusing the brothers in the late '70s when they were boys.

A judge dismissed the lawsuit, based on the agreement.

Bishop David Ricken issued a statement apologizing to the Merryfields and all victims of child sexual abuse.

Under the settlement, the Merryfields will receive 700-thousand dollars.

Reverend Feeney has ties to the Northwoods.

In the late sixties and early seventies, Feeney worked at Holy Family Rectory Church in Elcho.

He also worked at the parish in Pickerel, in Langlade County.
