Story By WJFW News Team

WAUSAU - Marathon County Sheriff Randy Hoenisch announced his retirement last month. But he's still serving as sheriff.

Friday, Hoenisch released a statement saying that he has contacted the Wisconsin Retirement system.

He says he can't continue the retirement process until he receives the necessary documents from the system. He will then notify Governor Walker of his exact retirement date.

Hoenisch's announcement followed reports that he had booked less than TWO office hours in 2013.

Hoenisch's wife is facing charges of burglary and misconduct.
