Minocqua's Winter Park Bark Skijoring Submitted: 03/03/2013

MINOCQUA - Skiing seems to be a popular sport in the Northwoods, but one local outdoor park wanted to try something a little different.

This includes four legged animal.

Minocqua's Winter Park and Nordic Center hosted their very first 5-K and 10-K Ski-joring race.

Skiers put their dogs in skijoring harnesses and leashes.

They then ski behind them for a fast-paced race.

Evan Patts cames from Madison to race in the Squirrel Hill Pursuit Saturday, but also heard about skijoring.

"This is actually our first race. We figured we give it a try," said Patts.

"I like going on runs with him and throwing the ball, but I really like skiing and if we can both ski at the same time, it's pretty fun. "

Even though this a fun event to participate in with your K-9 friend, you should be mindful of what kind of dog you're using to ski.

"I think you want to be cautious that you're not overworking your dog," Assistant Race Coordinator, Rae Lundberg said.

"They suggest on some of the informational website that dogs 30 pounds and bigger are appropriate dogs for skijoring."

The Lincoln House in Merrill is badly damaged and beyond repair.

It needs to be demolished.

The buyer would have to pay for that, plus have a plan to redevelop the site.

The city has been trying to sell the Lincoln House for three years.
