MEDFORD - A man burned down his own business in Medford last Saturday.

That's what police say happened to the Main Street Convenience Store that now sits in ashes.

David Johnson was the operator of the business.

Now, he's charged with arson.

Community members helped piece the story together.

"From local citizens, just coming forward and supplying information. I can't get into specifics, but we had a couple of really good people just come forward and say, 'you know what, I just have to tell you what I saw early in the morning,'" said Medford Police Chief Ken Coyer.

Johnson first appeared in court Monday.

Medford Police have called in the State Department of Criminal Investigation and State Fire Marshal to help with the case.

"They'll look at everything from electrical to possibly if we determine there are any accelerants used, to where exactly the fire started in the building, (and) how the fire spread through the structure," Coyer said.

The fire also forced an adjacent business to work out of a temporary home.

That building will need to be completely gutted.
