Mining Bill to be Considered Next Week
Story By Associated Press

MADISON - As early as next week we could finally have a decision about iron mining in Northern Wisconsin.

The Legislature's finance committee will meet Monday in Madison to vote on the mining bill.

If it passes, it would be easier for Gogebic Taconite to build an open pit mine south of Lake Superior

Governor Scott Walker proposed the bill last January.

He said it will create more jobs for the state.

Currently the Republican Party Controls both the Senate, and the assembly, which means the bill will likely pass.

Those against the bill worry a mine will pollute nearby water, or even Lake Superior itself.

If you want to add your two cents to the mining debate, head to Merrill tonight.

Frank Koehn of Ashland and other guests will give presentations and open the floor to discussion on mining.

The program is free and open to the public.

It starts at 6:30 this evening at the T.B. Scott Free Library in Merrill.
