Impressive Passing Rates With Nicolet Medical Assistant Students Submitted: 02/20/2013

RHINELANDER - Getting a couple of students to pass an exam takes a lot of dedication, but getting the whole class to pass is a lot of hard work.

That's what one Northwoods College did last week.

This is the second year all Nicolet College Medical Assistant graduates passed the national exam.

This position is essential to the medical field.

Medical Assistants duties can vary from working in the lab to removing patients stitches.

The Medical Assistant Program Director says they've always strived for a 100 percent passing rate.

"With Nicolet College graduates being able to pass the test, they're able to find work in this area and the benefit is into the communities that we serve." said Nicolet Medical Assistant Director, Candy Dailey.

One of the students in the program thinks the hands on experience has helped her out a lot.

"It reflects on our instructors and the work that you put in. You don't put the work in, you're not going to pass it." said Medical Assistant Student, Kelli Killbury.

15 out of the 18 students are already working in the health care field.

Part of the problem is the state's larger industries sell older technologies that are being overtaken by newer advances.

Three of the state's five largest sectors have to do with paper and printing.

That could be a concern as the nation shifts its demand toward digital media.

The study also says Wisconsin's main industries aren't as globally minded as are manufacturers elsewhere.

LINCOLN COUNTY - The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office needs your help.

Investigators want to talk to anyone who was near Anita Bucki's home between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. on April 26.

That's the day she went missing. Her husband, Mark Bucki, has been charged in her murder.

Lieutenant Tim Fischer says he specifically wants to talk to anyone who may have seen a large fire that morning.

Helping out that number is Bletsoe's Cheese in Marathon.

Their old fashioned approach to cheese making still proves successful.

Bonnie Bletsoe and her husband David started the business in 1983.

They have a fully operational cheese factory, making cheese, the old way.

RHINELANDER - You can find a new smartphone, tablet or computer out every day.

That’s why school districts struggle to keep up with new technology.

The school district of Rhinelander realized that back in 1996.

That's when the community passed a technology referendum.

It gives the district $600,000 a year to spend on technology.

The board unanimously approved the motion to purchase new laptops, desktop computers and chrome books Monday night.

Wisconsin produces most maple syrup since 1992 Submitted: 06/17/2013

MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin's maple syrup producers are having a great year.

A report released Monday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's statistical arm says the state's farmers produced five times as much maple syrup this year as last year and the most since it began keeping track in 1992.

The USDA says Wisconsin produced 265,000 gallons of maple syrup this year.

Last year's season was cut short by early warm weather.

36-year-old Christopher Meindel has been on the run for just more than a month.

He's listed as 5 foot 10 and 170 pounds.

He has multiple tattoos on both arms.

Meindel was convicted of making and selling meth.
