Lake Tomahawk Hosts Snowshoe Baseball Submitted: 02/10/2013
LAKE TOMAHAWK - Anyone who thinks baseball is just a summer sport hasn't been to Winterfest in Lake Tomahawk. For the second year, a nice crowd showed up for snowshoe baseball.

There were plenty of laughs to go around as players took big swings---and big falls.

Winterfest Director Liz Taylor says the event is a big hit with fans.

"It's how the community gets involved. We all pull together to raise a lot of money, last year we raised over 4-thousand dollars and this year we're hoping to do the exact same thing."

Seeing players eat snow is a great time for fans--but maybe even better for players. Donavin Moore played on Sunday. He said you can’t be prideful when participating in this game.

"It's not easy to stand up on snowshoes it's an art. You have to slide your feet. And you do fall no matter how good you are."

Home Sales Up Overall for the State Submitted: 05/21/2013

MADISON - Home sales in Wisconsin keep growing.

New numbers show April was the 22nd consecutive month of growth.

Sales were up 9 percent compared to April of last year.

The median price for existing homes rose 8 percent.

For the northern region of the state, sales were up five percent in April.

RHINELANDER - It often feels like there are two seasons in Wisconsin: Winter and Construction.

Drivers in Rhinelander will head into summer with a brand new construction-related headache to deal with on a major roadway.

"We're hopeful, and we'll work our best to get it to where we want it to be," city engineer Tim Kingman said.

Rhinelander city leaders think that's the mindset to take when it comes to a major construction project on busy Kemp Street. Smaller portions of the project will start in early June. That's on Bruner St. and Boyce Drive.

Motorcylcist speeds away from Lincoln Co. Sheriff's Deputies at 100+ MPH Submitted: 05/20/2013

MERRILL - When most people see flashing red lights, they pull over.

Lincoln county deputies are looking for a motorcycle rider who didn't.

A Cafe Racer bike flew down highway 51 around 7pm last night going 84 miles per hour.

A deputy south of Tomahawk tried to pull the driver over, but the biker took off at over 100 miles an hour. For safety reasons, the deputy did not start a chase.

Rhinelander man killed in ATV crash Submitted: 05/20/2013

MERRILL - A Rhinelander man died in an ATV crash in Lincoln County this weekend.

The Sheriff's Office responded to a crash just after 6 Saturday night in the town of Harrison.

49-year old Randy Romenesko appeared to have lost control of his ATV and crashed into a tree. He was taken to Ministry Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say Romenesko was wearing a helmet but wasn't properly secured. Speed may have been a factor, but police believe alcohol was not.
