Three Lakes School District Hosts 2nd Career Day Expo Submitted: 02/08/2013
THREE LAKES - Figuring out how to make a living can be hard.

The Three Lake School District tried to helped students make that decision today.Twenty-nine expert speakers came to give students their professional advice.

District Guidance Director Gene Welhoefer makes a living by giving students a direction. He's worked since last February to make this a special day for his kids.

"An activity like this gives them the first hand knowlege of people who are in career fields. They're in small groups they get to ask questions they would not ask if there were twenty kids in the room. And the people coming in are experts."

Culinary Arts is Senior Bridgette Schmitt's dream job. She's glad to have a school that makes career planning a top priority.

"That's something my life and my work experience in the community and also the school has helped me to decide. And the career fair as well, because they've had speakers, business owners, restuant owners. A lot of the tourism around here is definitely the hospitality industry."

One of the Career Day's speakers was our very own Ryan Michaels. He had the opportunity to teach kids about both Meteorology and news reporting.

It can be even harder if the gym closes early.

But one Northwoods hospital is opening their fitness center 24 hours a day so you can workout out any time.

Langlade Hospital opened the doors to its new fitness center today.

The facility helps patients with rehabilitation.

Local Reps Discuss Budget Submitted: 06/17/2013

WAUSAU - The General Assembly takes up the budget Tuesday. Monday, some local representatives and school officials talked to the public about why they believe the budget will hurt schools.

Democratic representatives Mandy Wright and Katrina Shankland spoke in Wausau today.

Shankland, who represents Stevens Point, stated, "In the last session, Republicans took over 1.6 billion dollars from our public education. They robbed our students of $550 in aid per student. And in this budget, they only return $150. That simply is not acceptable."

SUGAR CAMP - You can drive an ATV through practically anything; Snow, mud, water and soon, on Sugar Camp's roads.

Monday, the Sugar Camp Town Board decided to allow ATVs on its roads.

All ATV drivers must wear helmets and license their vehicles.

But even with those rules, some residents still think ATVs on the roads will be dangerous.

Wisconsin produces most maple syrup since 1992 Submitted: 06/17/2013

MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin's maple syrup producers are having a great year.

A report released Monday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's statistical arm says the state's farmers produced five times as much maple syrup this year as last year and the most since it began keeping track in 1992.

The USDA says Wisconsin produced 265,000 gallons of maple syrup this year.

Last year's season was cut short by early warm weather.

WAUSAU - Last June, Kerby Kneiss died after he was beaten to death with a baseball bat.

Prosecutors think Warren Krohn was one of the men who killed Kneiss.

But Krohn's lawyer argues police might not have collected the evidence against him legally.

Krohn's lawyer argued that what he said while police interrogated him shouldn't be used in court. They say he was in police custody - but was not informed of his Miranda Rights.

MERRILL - Police now call a man who simply ran away from his probation officer armed and extremely dangerous.

36-year-old Christopher Meindel has been on the run for just more than a month.

He's listed as 5 foot 10 and 170 pounds.

He has multiple tattoos on both arms.

Meindel was convicted of making and selling meth.
