Winterfest Ice Fishing CompetitionSubmitted: 01/27/2013
Story By Ryan Abney

PHILLIPS - Nobody knows how to party on the ice like people in the Northwoods. Sunday, people in Phillips did just that as the city it's 5th annual Winterfest Ice-Fishing Competion.

Ten dollars was all you needed to enter the contest. Cash prizes went to the day's top catches followed by a raffle drawing in the evening.

Linda Johnson is on the Phillips Chamber board. Although the showing was good today, she's always trying to reel in more participants.

"Every year we're trying to add more things to it, and do more so people can make it a family weekend and people have something they can to that everyone can enjoy. Eveyone likes to ice fish, what else is there to do in the winter time?"

Johnson is also in charge of over-seeing the competion. She's always watching for flags to drop.

Kayden Settern was out on the lake early on. He had no problem bagging fish today.

"This is a 24 and a half inch northern that we caught on tip up, and a 20 and a half inch northern we caught on tip-up as well."
