Teacher Earns National Board Certification
RHINELANDER - Advanced teachers get recognized for their skills. Only 80 teachers in Wisconsin were recognized with their National Board Certification this year.

Among them is Michelle Flohr. Flohr teaches at Crescent Elementary in Rhinelander. She says third grade has its own challenges.

"With elementary students, you never know what you are going to get day to day. So, through the process, when you're planing lesson plans, a lot of times I would have to revamp everything that I had planned in the first place with the lesson to try to get everything that I wanted out of the kids," Michelle Flohr, a Crescent Elementary Third Grade Teacher.

The process can take anywhere from one to three years to complete. But it took Flohr just one year to receive her certification.

MERRILL - Organizers broke ground on the Northwoods Veterans Post in Merrill Saturday.

It will serve veterans, boy, girl and cub scouts as well as the community.

Northwoods Veterans Post marketing Chairperson Tracy Jopek lost her son in 2006 when his truck hit a bomb while he was serving oversees in Iraq.

"I'd like to think if he was the one that came home, that he would have a place to go. It's important to not just talk the talk about supporting the military but to actually do it," said Jopek.

Saturday, Jopek and other organizers broke ground on the Northwoods Veterans Post in Merrill.

"The Northwoods Veterans Post offers a place that we can bring in resources," said Jopek.

Those resources were never offered at the more than 100-year-old Merrill VFW building.

ST. GERMAIN - Looking around Kathy Lass's restaurant in St. Germain, it's pretty obvious why she and her husband named it the Wolf Pack Café 19 years ago.

"We had a lot of artwork that had wolves on it, so it was a no-brainer," said Lass. "We took the pictures off the walls of our house and hung them in the café and decided the Wolf Pack Café was it."

That theme will carry over to the café's new sign.
