RHINELANDER - A young girl in the Northwoods battling cancer will be remembered forever. Tomorrow will be Leanna Kossack Day in Rhinelander.
Mayor Dick Johns made it official this morning.
He handed out a proclamation to the Kossack family on behalf of the Rhinelander community.
"Therefore I Richard Johns, Mayor of the City of Rhinelander, do hereby proclaim Leanna Kossack Day here in Rhinelander. All citizens join in a special location in honor of Leanna Kossack."
"To have to go through that is awful and to see your friends and family, businesses, and even people you've never met in your life just really stand up and pull for her. It's an amazing feeling." Says Leanna's stepfather, who accepted the proclamation on her behalf.
She'll be at the benefit her family's holding in her honor tomorrow. A bake sale runs in the open business next to Sackett's on Brown Street from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Then, the benefit starts at Bugsy's in Downtown Rhinelander at 2 p.m. and runs until midnight. The raffle drawing will be at 8 p.m.
Donations will go toward Leanna's medication and also to other children battling cancer.
