Kinder Castle Collaboration Submitted: 01/23/2013
Story By Ryan Abney

EAGLE RIVER - On Wednesday, Northland Pines Elementary students and Eagle River Fire Department had big plans.

The goal?

Build a castle with nothing but Milk Jugs and good old fashion work ethic. But Working doesn't mean you can't have fun.

"We focus on jobs and we also focus on heroes, community. This really fits into all aspects. And the kids are so excited to see a fire fighter these are there heroes." said Kindergarten Teacher Sarah Simac.

Teaching a few lessons is the goal for Assistant Fire Chief Nikolai Karl. He just knows kid's love getting their hands messy.

"Anything that's hands on with the safety house where the kids actually do something. They not only retain it but they get to be active and children like to be active."

If kids have doubts about scary firefighters--projects like these extinguish that thought.

"We get to go to the fire department in October for fire prevention and that's their first meeting with them. It just gets the kids more comfortable seeing them and they're just overall excited about it."
