Story By Joe Dufek

- Action in high school sports continues to heat up. This week, we've got standout performances in boys and girls basketball, gymnastics, and boys hockey.

Let's take a look at our four nominees for the Newswatch 12 Player of the Week.

In boys hockey, Tomahawk goalie Evan Russo made 44 saves against Northland Pines last week. Russo has saved 88% of the shots he's faced so far this season.

In gymnastics, Rhinelander's Elle Spiegelhoff won both the uneven bars and the floor exercise at last week's triangular against Lakeland and Chequamegon. Elle would go on to win the all-around competition as well as the Hodags won the meet.

On Friday in boys basketball, Antigo picked up a big conference road win against Lakeland. Cassius Noskowiak scored 11 points for the Red Robins.

And in girls basketball, Crandon remained undefeated in Northern Lakes Conference play with a win at Elcho Friday night. Celia Space chipped in 19 points and grabbed some key rebounds for the Cardinals.

To vote on any of the nominees, go to the sports poll at wjfw.com. Voting ends at 3pm on Friday. The winner will receive a plaque for their achievement.

If you would like to nominate someone for next week - e-mail it to sports@wjfw.com. Please include stats for a game this week.
