Ice Drags Coming to RhinelanderSubmitted: 01/18/2013
Story By Lyndsey Stemm

RHINELANDER - If you're a fan of all things fast, there will be another race for you to go to this winter.

There are ice drag races in Merrill every year, but this winter the Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce will host one too. It's the first in what Chamber Director Lara Reed hopes will be an annual event in Rhinelander.

Everyone has snowmobiling on the brain right now, but these races are for slightly more traditional gear-heads.

"I think people hear ice drag racing and they think of snowmobiles immediately but this is actually cars. It's modeled after the Merrill Ice Drags, which has been going on for like 50 years. A group of racers was interested in having another race so they came to us; these all happened to be guys from Rhinelander," says Reed.

Reed thinks this will be a fun new addition to the city's winter activities.

The ice drags are February 23rd on Lake Thompson. For more information please see the link below.
