Three-car crash backs up traffic on Hwy 8

RHINELANDER - Wednesday morning's light dusting of snow could be to blame for an accident on Highway 8 near Rifle Road in Rhinelander.
Three cars were involved in the wreck around 8:30 AM. Thankfully, there were no injuries.
They were all going in the same direction down Highway 8 toward Rhinelander.
The accident was described as "a chain reaction" causing a truck to swerve off the road and into the ditch.
Traffic was filtered down to one lane near Rifle road until the accident was cleaned up.
Police requested extra salt for the road.

Republicans want to limit access to proposed mine site

MADISON - Wisconsin Republicans are looking to curtail public access to an iron mine site in far northwestern Wisconsin in hopes of stopping protesters from interfering with the project. Representative Mark Honadel is trying to persuade Republican leaders to make changes in the state budget limiting access. Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, a Juneau Republican, acknowledged the discussions on Monday.
New study raises concerns about Wisconsin economy

MILWAUKEE - A new study raises concerns about Wisconsin's long-term economy. Part of the problem is the state's larger industries sell older technologies that are being overtaken by newer advances. Three of the state's five largest sectors have to do with paper and printing. That could be a concern as the nation shifts its demand toward digital media. The study also says Wisconsin's main industries aren't as globally minded as are manufacturers elsewhere.
Lincoln Co. Sheriff's Office seeks eyewitnesses to fire near Bucki's home

LINCOLN COUNTY - The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office needs your help. Investigators want to talk to anyone who was near Anita Bucki's home between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. on April 26. That's the day she went missing. Her husband, Mark Bucki, has been charged in her murder. Lieutenant Tim Fischer says he specifically wants to talk to anyone who may have seen a large fire that morning.
Power Restored After Storm Outages

RHINELANDER - Thousands lost power in the northwoods, thanks to heavy storms last night. Wisconsin Public service says 5-thousand customers were without electricity right after the storm yesterday. 2-thousand were still out early this morning, but almost everyone should have service back now. The Rhinelander area was hardest hit.
Rhinelander School Board approves technology purchase

RHINELANDER - You can find a new smartphone, tablet or computer out every day. That’s why school districts struggle to keep up with new technology. The school district of Rhinelander realized that back in 1996. That's when the community passed a technology referendum. It gives the district $600,000 a year to spend on technology. The board unanimously approved the motion to purchase new laptops, desktop computers and chrome books Monday night.
$200,000 bond for mother accused of trying to kill her children

RIB LAKE - A judge set bond at $200,000 for a Rib Lake woman accused of trying to kill four of her children. Heidi Mann, 37, appeared in Taylor County Circuit Court this morning. The judge also ruled Mann is not allowed to have unsupervised contact with her kids. Taylor County Sheriff's deputies arrested Mann June 14. She has six children. She's accused of trying to kill her three, five, eight and 11-year-old children using carbon monoxide back in March. Mann is due back in court June 25.
ATVs allowed on streets of Sugar Camp

SUGAR CAMP - You can drive an ATV through practically anything; Snow, mud, water and soon, on Sugar Camp's roads. Monday, the Sugar Camp Town Board decided to allow ATVs on its roads. All ATV drivers must wear helmets and license their vehicles. But even with those rules, some residents still think ATVs on the roads will be dangerous.
