Heavy Rains Cause Hwy 45 FloodingSubmitted: 11/11/2012

EAGLE RIVER - Sunday's Heavy rain caused one major highway in Vilas County to partially shut down.

One of the northbound lanes on Highway 45 in Eagle River was closed off Sunday afternoon due to flooding.

Eagle River police and the Vilas County Sheriff's department detoured traffic for a few hours.

The massive puddle was several inches deep and spanned several yards.


The speed limit in that area is 35mph but cars were going about 10mph to avoid skidding out.

Eagle River got about an inch of rain Sunday.

Sayner reported the most amount of rainfal--getting about an inch and a half.

"Those would be really helpful for a lot of people in the area," Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Dana DeMet said. "And I think the biggest challenge in the Northwoods is that it's just not as visible, so it's a little harder sometimes to garner that support if you are not faced with it on the streets every day."

WISCONSIN RAPIDS - Police in Wisconsin Rapids need help finding a missing 21-year-old man. Friends and family of Patrick E. Howard haven't seen him since Tuesday afternoon.

It was at 102 Thousand Oak Road.

Howard is a 6'2", 180 lbs. white man. He was carrying three grocery bags, a comforter and a pillow. Howard has brown hair and blue eyes.

He doesn't have a car or working phone. His friends and family say it isn't normal for him to not contact them.
