GLEASON - Most people play the lottery for fun.

Sometimes they're lucky enough to win money.

But one Lincoln County woman didn't want to pay to win.

"Oh we sell quite a few lottery tickets," Remington Oil Exxon manager Maxine Kane said.

The gas station in Gleason will sell a few less over the next few weeks.

"We keep track of all our tickets as they come in," Kane said.

"When we noticed there was packs missing, we called right away."

Kane manages the store and said some of the big money scratch-offs went missing.

Police arrested 22-year-old Jennifer Boyd after she tried to cash some of the stolen tickets in Merrill.

"The state knows what vendors, or what agencies, or what stores have what tickets," Lincoln County Sheriff's Lieutenant Tim Fischer said.

"When they distribute those it's much like a dollar bill, they all have their own unique serial number and everything's tracked. "

"Lottery tickets are the easiest thing to trace," Kane said.

"There's numbers on each one of them, they could trace them almost immediately. You can tell exactly where each one's been cashed and at what time."

Lt. Fischer says Boyd stole nearly $1,000 in tickets and tried to cash out a couple hundred dollars worth of winnings.

Now, she's sitting behind bars in Merrill waiting to appear in court Tuesday.
