WAUSAU - The campaign trail led to Wausau for U.S. Senate candidate Tammy Baldwin. She made the stop with Senator Herb Kohl, who she's hoping to replace.

Baldwin told the crowd when she travels throughout the state she hears frustration from everyone on how tough it's been to get by.

"If that equation is supposed to work-- work hard, play by the rules, get ahead-- I can promise you it's not our work ethic that's changed. So I submit to you it's the rules that have changed," says Baldwin.

Baldwin says she understands the struggles northern Wisconsin has faced through lost jobs. She says she's already been working to bring back the manufacturing sector.

"I introduced bipartisan legislation to crack down on China's cheating. That's part of the reason we're losing so many jobs, is they're subsidizing their industry. And my bipartisan legislation got wrapped into a larger trade bill, signed into law by President Obama, and now we have the tools to fight back," says Baldwin.

Senator Kohl believes Baldwin has many of the characteristics he's been known for during his tenure.

"She's not reachable by special interests; she's immune to them. She's a person who is going to be down the line every day working for the many diverse interests that make Wisconsin a state that works. The interests are not necessarily Republican or Democrat; they're not political," says Sen. Kohl.

The latest in-state poll has Baldwin leading her challenger Tommy Thompson by four points.
