Pink Glove Dance a Dream in the Making Submitted: 10/15/2012

RHINELANDER - Putting together a Pink Glove Dance is a dream years in the making for one Minocqua woman.

"I kept asking and asking over the years, can we do it, can we do it?," asked Kathy Landis, a two-time cancer survivor.

This is the year.

Kathy has wanted to put together a 'Pink Glove Dance' to raise awareness for breast cancer for years.

"It seemed like a fun team thing to thank my coworkers for helping me through everything and have a fun thing with it," she says.

This year, she finally convinced her colleagues at Ministry Home Care to do it.

It's part of a nationwide contest put on by Medline, a medical equipment company.

Melissa Salaam became the choreographer for the project.

"At home, at night, we would come up with a dance to teach the staff here," Salaam, also the Patient Care Supervisor at Ministry Home Care, says.

Salaam was just about the only staff member with past dance experience, but that didn't matter.

"Just the energy. It didn't have to be perfect. You just had to have fun with it," she says.

And thanks to film work from volunteer Alan Condra, the finished product was nothing but a success.

"It was amazing. I'm so proud of it. Just ecstatic about how awesome it turned out," Salaam says.

"I think it's fantastic. For a small group, we did wonderful. For a bunch of ladies who really are not dancers, let me tell you, I thought we did a fantastic job," Kathy says.

While fulfilling a longtime wish for Kathy, perhaps providing some hope for a breast cancer cure.
