MERRILL - Judge Yackel took the oath of office today as the appointed interim replacement for Judge Glenn Hartley in Lincoln County.

This spring residents will elect a permanent replacement. Yackel plans to run, and tonight we're introducing you to the other man who wants the job.

Robert Russell runs the Russell law firm just a stone's throw away from the Lincoln County courthouse. He's practiced there for 20 years.

Russell wants court proceedings to move quickly.

"Money's tight and I think it's important that people have their legal issues resolved quickly. I think it's important that if people come before a judge, that the judge render a fair and reasoned decision as quickly as possible," says Russell.

Russell has practiced both civil and criminal law. He believes his varied experience qualifies him to be a circuit court judge.

And he knows just how he would run his courtroom.

"Many people never get into a courtroom. But if they do I think they deserve to have a court that treats them with respect," says Russell.

Russell says he's looking forward to the campaign, and wished Judge Yackel the best of luck.
