RHINELANDER, MINOCQUA, ELCHO, MEDFORD - We had a few upsets last week in several high school sports. Some shinning performances were key to their victories. Those performances landed them as a nominee for the Newswatch 12 Player of the Week. Here are the four selections to choose from.

In football, Medford knocked off previously undefated Mosinee on Friday night. Cole Loertsher had 154 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns.

In another upset - this time in volleyball, Elcho upset then conference co-leader Crandon. Kelly Hanson had a dozen kills for the Hornets.

In girls swimming, Lakeland's Carolyn Kelk posted wins in the 100 and 200 yard free, and was a member of the T-Birds 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays - all victories. Lakeland defeated Tomahawk in a matchup of umbeaten conference foes.

Also in football, the entire Rhinelander football team pulled off a 14-13 win over Merrill - the Hodags first win in the series since 2003. It's Rhinelander's third conference win - which could make them post season eligible.

To vote on any of the nominees, vote on the sports poll at wjfw.com. Voting ends at 3pm on Friday.
