WAUSAU - While President Obama was in Madison, Republican Senator Ron Johnson stopped in Wausau to rally support for the Romney/Ryan ticket.

Sticking with Wednesday night’s presidential debate theme of the economy—Johnson stressed the importance of job creation.

He criticized the President for his fiscal record.

"I’d like to ask him now what is his plan for another 4 years. Why would the next four years be any different than the last two years for example?" Johnson said.

Manufacturing is the number one industry in Wisconsin.

Johnson said with strict environmental regulations enforced by the Obama administration, manufacturing companies are struggling.

"Nobody is proposing we do away with regulations but we need effective regulations. We need to modernize them. We need to make them actually help businesses create jobs rather than hurt job creation," Johnson said.

Dozens of people came to hear Senator Johnson speak at the Wausau Victory center Thursday afternoon.

For many voters, the number one issue is the economy.

Laverne Rondeau, who attended today's press conference, said "There are so many people without jobs. We need to get back to where 60% or 80% of the population is working and contributing to this country’s wealth as opposed to where it is now."

After stopping in Wausau, Senator Johnson headed to Chippewa Falls to continue rallying support for Governor Romney.
