RHINELANDER - One month in and Rhinelander's "Buy Local" campaign seems to be working. You've probably seen the logo all over town in the past month, and maybe even dropped a business card into the collection bucket. The "I Buy Local" project got up and running without a hitch.

"Downtown Rhinelander they've done a survey that shows that $27 million leaves the Rhinelander community every year. And that's being spent on goods and services that are available right here in our community," says Executive Director Lara Reed, from the Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce.

That's the motivation behind the "I Buy Local" campaign. Sixty eight cents of every dollar spent in Rhinelander stays there. It goes toward things like schools, non-profits and public services.

To Reed, the campaign is more than just a logo.

"It's a multi-faceted campaign. We've got advertising for the businesses, we've got promotions and consumer things we want to do to get people through your doors. But then we are looking at those tools that businesses might need. As a small business owner it might just be you and your store, and you don't know who to ask for help. We we want to offer that outlet as well," says Reed.

Reed says businesses are happy with the response so far. She also says the positive buzz she gets from people around town suggest it's really catching on.

Forty businesses are now participating in the campaign. Any business in the city of Rhinelander can participate- there's still plenty of time to sign up.
