SCHOFIELD - As D.C. Everest High School’s cross country coach, Brad Seeley’s sneakers log plenty of miles.

But on Saturday, Seeley faces his longest and most important run yet.

He is running all 83 miles of the Mountain Bay Trail from Green Bay to Weston in honor of Dennis Holt, D.C. Everest’s and Seeley’s former cross country coach.

Holt suffers from Parkinson’s disease, as does Seeley’s godfather.

“I wanted to do something to help them out, since they’ve been such a big part of my life,” Seeley said.

Seeley’s wife, Caitlin, will be biking alongside him the whole way.

“I want to make sure I’m by Brad’s side the whole time, so that’s going to keep me going,” she said. “I know that mentally, he’ll probably want to slow down a bit – he won’t stop, I know that, but I’ll be there to cheer him on.”

The couple’s family, friends and students are joining them at different points along the trail.

“Some of my runners are, which I’m really looking forward to,” Seeley said. “They’re going to catch me in the last ten miles or so, so knowing they’re going to be there is going to be a big motivator to keep going.”

Both Brad and Caitlin hope this is motivation for others.

“I always tell my guys, be a part of something bigger than yourself and do something that’s going to change people’s lives positively,” he said. “Hopefully, this is one of those things and it will inspire them a little bit.”
