RHINELANDER - Christmas is about a month away, but one Northwoods city is already getting people into the Christmas spirit.
About a 100 people showed up at Stevensport Square in Rhinelander Friday night to see the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and the Santa Parade.
Rhinelander Mayor Dick Johns kicked off the festivities by flipping the switch to light the hundreds of lights on this enormous tree.
Santa was also on hand to greet people after the Santa Parade.
Some people who came here tonight say this is a great way to start the holiday season.
Christina Patterson, Attended Christmas Event, says, "I have a three-year-old son and we came with friends and family and everybody got to see Santa and have a good time."
Those who came here got to enjoy things like free candy and hot chocolate as well as live music and of course, Santa.
For one child, the best part about the event was seeing, "Santa and Merry Christmas!" says Mac Patterson, who attended the Christmas event.
Christina Patterson says this is the first-year she and her family came to see the traditional parade and lights.
She says they'll definitely be coming back again next year.
The Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce says the lights will be on every night until the end of Christmas.
