Badgers men's basketball manager from Antigo fills the team unit Submitted: 02/11/2016

MADISON - Fans idealize the star college basketball players on the court.

But it isn't just the players and coaches that make up a successful program.

Student manager and UW sophomore Logan Wanca knows his responsibilities for the Badger basketball team.

"All of the odds and ends," Wanca said. "Anything to help this program get better."

Wanca graduated from Antigo High School and student managed the Red Robbins basketball team.

"That's why I'm here now," Wanca said. "Doing what I love during college."

But Wanca didn't get the job his freshman year. So during the summer he worked Badger basketball. That experience helped him land this job this year.

Wanca is one of 16 student managers on the team—a total that almost outnumbers the players. Head coach Greg Gard recognizes their work.

"Really at the heart and soul of what we do," Gard said. "I mean, they do so many things that they don't get credit for. Obviously when the 17,000 are in here for a game, they don't realize how big of an impact they have on this program."

For some perspective on how important student mangers are to the program, the team's current director of basketball operations worked as a student manager for the basketball team for her four years as a student at Madison.

"I know very much what is necessary in their position, and I know how crucial they are to our coaching staff and support staff for all the daily tasks," said Men's Director of Basketball Operations Kat Vosters.

Whether it's taking stats, rebounding during practice, tracking video, or wiping up sweet, Wanca loves his job.

"I don't take anything for granted," he said. "I'm here all the time."

MADISON - Wisconsin defeated Nebraska 72-61 on Wednesday night in Madison.

Coach Greg Gard says opponents have seen the Badgers play well inside during the teams six-game winning streak.

So Nebraska shuffled between man-to-man and 2-3 zone.

Their season ended abruptly in overtime for the second straight season on Saturday against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Packers had an up and down season on the offensive side of ball.

"Obviously we did not get it done on offense so I think the structure was obviously a part of the failure so that's something we'll be closely evaluated," said Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy.

The Packers offense didn't have that same flow as it did last year. A couple factors played into that. First the run is an integral part of the pass. Eddie Lacy rushed for 758 yards this year, that's 381 yards less than last year. McCarthy said he needs to be in better shape next year.
