One death in Ironwood fire.Submitted: 02/21/2018
IRONWOOD, MI - One person has died in a fire in downtown Ironwood in the Upper Peninsula.

Authorities say two buildings were badly damaged or destroyed early Wednesday, including one with apartments on two floors. Ironwood schools were closed due to poor air quality.

The cause was being investigated. The fire was next to the Chief Oil Co. building.

MARQUETTE - A two-car crash in the U.P. this morning killed a passenger from just across Michigan border.

The crash happened on Highway 553 a little south of Marquette around 8 a.m.

Michigan State Police say a sedan driver lost control and drove into oncoming traffic.The driver hit a minivan.

MILWAUKEE - Lawyers for a Wisconsin inmate featured in the "Making a Murderer" series have asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review an appeals court decision that held his confession was voluntary.

Brendan Dassey's legal team on Tuesday petitioned the nation's highest court to hear their appeal, saying the case raises crucial issues that extend far beyond Dassey's case alone and that long have divided state and federal courts.

BROOKFIELD - A cougar has been caught on camera too close for comfort at a Wisconsin home.

The homeowners called the Department of Natural Resources over the weekend when they spotted the cougar lying under a pine tree in their backyard.

NEILLSVILLE - A Neillsville couple is expected in court soon after police and sheriff's deputies searched their residence and reported finding methamphetamine, marijuana and a hand grenade.

The Clark County Sheriff's Office said Monday the Marathon County Bomb Squad was called to the home Friday to handle the grenade. Authorities say that after it was removed, officers searched the residence and found the illegal drugs and paraphernalia.

MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota officials will soon try to convince a jury that manufacturer 3M Co. should pay the state $5 billion to help clean up environmental damage it alleges was caused by pollutants the company dumped for decades.

The long-awaited trial begins Tuesday in Minneapolis. Experts say it could have wide-reaching implications if the state succeeds, in part because 3M and other companies legally dumped the chemicals for years.
