- A newly released investigatory report shows former U.S. Attorney James Santelle misused a government credit card to pay for his dry cleaning, a rental car and an airline ticket.
The new details were revealed Thursday in a report by the U.S. Justice Department's Office of the Inspector General. It was released to The Associated Press in response to an open records request.
Santelle abruptly resigned his position as U.S. attorney for the eastern half of Wisconsin in July 2015. A summary of his credit card misuse had been released in December.
The detailed report shows he also tried to use his government card for personal spa treatments but it was rejected.
Santelle said in a statement he takes full responsibility for the mistakes and deeply regrets them.
