- The Department of Natural Resources is starting to build a plan for moving the Division of Forestry's headquarters out of Madison.
Republican lawmakers included provisions in the state budget that require the DNR to develop a plan to relocate the division's headquarters out of the agency's central offices in the state's capital city and into northern Wisconsin.
The budget requires DNR officials to develop detailed cost estimates, a timeline for relocation, and a list of location options in time to include them in the agency's 2017-2019 budget request this fall.
DNR officials announced Tuesday that they've started developing the plan by asking communities north of U.S. Highway 10 that may be interested in serving as the division's new base to send the agency information. Municipalities have until May 26 to respond.
