Local Man Donates Land to Technical College Submitted: 08/18/2014
Rhinelander - Nicolet College just got a very generous donation. Dr. Lee Swank of Rhinelander donated five-acres of land to the Nicolet College Foundation. School leaders say the donation will have a big impact on students wanting to get a college education. "We are going to be able to sell this property, and have a countless number of scholarships come out of it to help people who probably wouldn't otherwise be able to afford a college education," said Heather Schallock, executive director of the Nicolet College Foundation. So far, the foundation has awarded more than $350,000 in scholarships for the 2014-2015 school year. All of those scholarships are made possible through donations to the foundation. Leaders say not all donations are in the form of money, and that any type donation is greatly appreciated. "What we are looking for in the majority of our contributions and donations that we accept is a way to be able to take that gift and have an immediate impact on our students and their education," said Schallock. The land Dr. Swank donated is located in Iron County, Michigan right on Smokey Lake. All the proceeds from the sale of the land will be given out as scholarships to people looking to attend Nicolet Area Technical College. The college has the land up for sale.
