Hunters got off to a slow start this deer season Submitted: 11/26/2013
Madison - Hunters got off to a slow start this hunting season. Nearly 111-thousand deer were killed during the opening weekend of the state's nine-day gun season. That's down about 18 percent from last year's first two days. The buck harvest was down 25 percent and the antlerless harvest was down 9 percent. Department of Natural Resources officials say cold weather likely drove many hunters out of the woods early. Also, the agency issued fewer antlerless permits across the northern section of the state. That's in hopes of growing the herd in the north. (Copyright 2013 Associated Press - All Rights Reserved)
