- This week, the post season begins in football, volleyball, and cross country.Sectionals are also this week in boys soccer.Athletes are beginning to perform at a higher level. Let's take a look at our nominees for the Newswatch 12 Player of the Week.NOMINEE 1In football, Merrill running back Alex Klug rushed for 102 yards and 2 touchdowns against Lakeland. Merrill defeated Lakeland to finish the regular season with a (6-3) record.
NOMINEE 2In girls tennis, Newman Catholic senior Grace Larrain captured the Division 2 singles championship. She finished (28-3) and earned the school's first state championship in girls tennis.NOMINEE 3In girls cross country, Lakeland's Lauren Schilling won the race at the Great Northern Conference meet. The T-Birds won the team competition at the meet.NOMINEE 4Back to football, Crandon's Morgan Krueger rushed for 235 yards and 3 touchdowns in the Cardinal's victory over Menominee Indian.To vote on any of the nominees, go to the sports poll at wjfw.com.
