St. Paul man guilty in death of former Wausau area woman Submitted: 10/03/2013
Minneapolis - A jury finds a St. Paul man responsible for the death of his wife who came from the Wausau area.

39-year-old Jeffery Trevino was accused of killing his wife in a jealous rage and dumping her body in the Mississippi River.

Jurors convicted Trevino on one count of second-degree murder.

Trevino was acquitted on a second count that claimed he intended to kill his 30-year-old wife, Kira Steger. Steger's body was found in the river in May, more than two months after she disappeared.

Prosecutors claim Trevino was angry that his wife was having an affair and wanted a divorce.

A spokesman for the Ramsey County Attorney's office says prosecutors plan to seek the maximum sentence of 20 years.

Sentencing is scheduled November 25th.

Steger graduated from D.C. Everest in 2001.
