Logging company to be billed for massive fire Submitted: 09/10/2013
Madison - A logging company will be billed 600-thousand dollars for starting a fire that burned thousands of acres in Wisconsin. The blaze broke out in May in Douglas County. Shortly after firefighters contained the fire the DNR released a statement saying a logging crew started the fire. Prosecutors said there was no criminal intent. The DNR said yesterday the crew had a fire suppression mechanism on their equipment that wasn't properly maintained and hadn't been tested. DNR officials say the crew's company, Ray Duerr Logging, was negligent and should cover the cost of extinguishing the blaze, estimated at about $633-thousand dollars. A lawyer for the logging company says they will contest the bill. (Copyright 2013 Associated Press - All Rights Reserved)
