Drivers Could Face Penalties for Passing Garbage Trucks Submitted: 03/30/2013
Madison - Drivers who cut around stopped garbage trucks could risk the same penalties as passing a stopped school bus. A proposal in the state legislature would add sanitation truck workers to the statute. It calls for double penalties when drivers violate state and local traffic laws where the workers are present. Between four and eight sanitation workers are killed by cars each year while on the job. Michigan is the only state with a law like the one being proposed in Wisconsin.
