- Here's a sure sign of spring - Wisconsin's early trout season is just a little more than a week away. The season runs from 5 a.m. March 2nd until midnight on April 27nd. Participants will need a state fishing license and an inland trout stamp. DNR officials say the best time to fish will be in the afternoons, when water temperatures are a little warmer They say wooly bugger and scud flies are good choices for fishing deeper when there's no surface activity.
