- An abuse shelter in Merrill can keep all it's employees a little longer thanks to a grant. The grant helps, but only temporarily.
HAVEN is funded by grants and local donations, but the down economy caused that funding to be cut. HAVEN found itself short for its forth quarter budget, and faced the prospect of laying off employees.
The B.A. and Esther Greencheck Foundation agreed to give HAVEN $15,000 if they were able to match it through the community.
"One person came up and took care of the $15,000 and has even helped us further since then," says Judy Woller, HAVEN Executive Director of HAVEN.
HAVEN is still short another $10-15,000 to keep their 24 hour crisis hotline staffed this year.
"It impacts all of our society. So I think that's one of the things that people need to remember, that it can happen to anyone. Your daughter can be a victim of domestic violence," says Woller.
