Future of Merrill Pool in Jeopardy Submitted: 10/24/2012
Merrill - Merrill's City Administrator wants the pool closed for next summer.

The community pool is more than 40 years old, and Dave Johnson says it has several structural and leakage issues.

He estimates a full renovation, or the construction of a new pool, would cost about 3-million dollars.

Johnson told Newswatch 12 the pool is like "shoveling more money into a bottomless pit". To simply open for the summer, the pool would at least need to meet federal regulations by becoming accessible for disabled persons.

That would cost around $20,000. But Johnson wants the whole pool shut down until a new, more efficient one is built.

Merrill city officials will decide later this year.
