Four Wolves Killed First Day of Hunt Submitted: 10/16/2012
Statewide - Wisconsin's first wolf hunt started just a day ago, but hunters have already killed four wolves.

A female was shot in Vilas County at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Later in the afternoon, another female was shot in Iron County.

The other two wolves were killed in Rusk and Eau Claire counties.

The Wisconsin DNR's wolf hunt spokesperson Kurt Theide said the first day of the hunt went off "safely and without incident." The DNR won't have another tally until Wednesday morning.

The hunt is scheduled to run through February, but it could end sooner if hunters meet quotas.

The statewide quota is 116 wolves.
