Northland Pines Athletes Help Set Up for Relay for Life Submitted: 08/02/2012
Eagle River - Athletes in London grab our attention with their hurdling, sprinting, diving and flipping.

But sometimes, simply walking is just as powerful.

The Northwoods Relay for Life kicks off Friday in Eagle River.

The event honors cancer survivors and cancer fighters.

"One of the things that really makes our 13th year special is we have a lot of new teams, a lot of youth involved" said Kitty Sookochoff, chair of
Northwoods Relay for Life. "We have the Northland Pines hockey team setting up, and the football team. We have three youth teams from the high school, and a lot of other young people involved this year." The opening ceremony is at 6:00 p.m. on the Northland Pines High School track.

Over 200 cancer survivors will walk the first lap around the track.

Other highlights include brats, sweet corn, a rafffle, and live music by Big Road at 7:00.

Memorial luminaries will be lit at 9:30.
