Madison - Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett appears to be pulling ahead of the Democratic competition less than two weeks before a primary that will determine who faces Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker on June 5th.

The recall has attracted national attention as a battle over union rights.

Polls show Barrett with a lead ahead of the May 8th Democratic primary.

However, one of his Democratic opponents, Kathleen Falk, is favored by labor unions. Barrett, who ran against Walker in 2010, is much better known to voters than Falk, and recently some unions have begun to hedge their bets in the race.

One group of unions that has supported Falk recently pulled its TV ads.

Labor led the effort to recall Walker after the Republican governor backed legislation to strip public employees of their collective bargaining rights.
