- As we enter the middle of National Volunteer Week many people may still be looking for opportunities to share their time.
Thanks to a relatively new program in Rhinelander it's easier than ever to match searching volunteers with organizations looking for a helping hand.
The Hodag Volunteer Connection currently places 21 different agencies seeking close to 50 volunteer opportunities up for grabs to those searching to help.
Rhinelander Chamber Executive Director, Lara Reed says there has always been a strong supply of both volunteers and organizations in the Northwoods, "We saw, not only organizations calling us and asking how they can reach those volunteers, but volunteers naturally coming to the chamber. A place where they can get information and asking where they might be able to spend their time."
Reed says it takes the legwork out of searching and with such a giving community, it has really caught on, "I think one of the great things about the Rhinelander community is, we have so many different non-profit organizations, so many service organizations. So many different ways for people to get involved. We really do have a great spirit, I think, of volunteerism in the Rhinelander area."
So far the Hodag Connection has paired more than 60 organizations and volunteers since it began late last year.
